Proofreading

Spelling or grammar mistakes, unusual word order, and missing or incorrect words can have a dramatic effect on how your document is received. Proofreading means you can detect these errors before they cause any issues.

In business, errors could mean losing the confidence of potential customers and therefore revenue. In a legal setting they could mean the difference between a favourable or non-favourable result for your client. Proofreading is a vital part of creating a polished final piece of work.

Editing

We edit all our translations in-house as part of our standard translation service, before the final proofreading stage, to check the style, tone and flow of the piece, and make sure there is nothing missing.

We also provide a standalone editing service for projects you have already translated, to check them against your preferred style, make suggestions for changes, and ensure they flow smoothly. This can be very useful if the piece of work is large and more than one translator has worked on it, or if you have had a friend or colleague translate the work and you want to be sure it is accurate. We need to see the original document as well as the translated file and any supporting documents, so we can verify the work.

Proofreading

We proofread all our translations in-house at the final stage of our standard translation service. This is to check the translation matches the original, there are no missing or incorrect sections, and the language and grammar is correct. Depending on the project, it is either done by the same translator who provided the translation or by a second linguist.

We also offer a standalone proofreading service for projects you have already translated, to check for language and grammar. To do this effectively, we need to see the original document as well as the translated file and any supporting documents, so that we can verify the work.

Post-editing

Post-editing is a relatively new process whereby humans amend machine-generated translation to achieve an acceptable final product.

In addition to the usual editing and proofreading skills, this service requires a deep understanding of machine translation and how it renders foreign-language and English texts. Our post-editors hold the SDL Practical Post-Editing certificate to provide this additional service.
